Olympic Theatre

In Vicenza has been built the first covered theater of the modern era. Commissioned by the Olympic for the staging of classical plays, the theater was designed by Palladio as a kind of testament, the legacy of a perfect artwork.

The structure intended to give continuity to the activity started in the wooden theater set up by Palladio in the Basilica and opened in 1585 with the staging of Oedipus the King by Sophocles.

Representations, suspended during the Counter-Reformation, were resumed in the mid-nineteenth century and even today they are held performances and cultural events, with a capacity of 470 seats. The theater can be visited throughout the year, it has been included in 1994 list of World Heritage Sites by UNESCO.
